The icebound continent of Antarctica must have been a very cold and lonely place during
the winter of 1933. Seventy years ago, my father was part of Admiral Richard E. Bryd's
Second Expedition to Antarctica and lived on that frozen landscape for two years. The paintings
in this series are based on the small black and white photographs he brought back with him from this faraway land. The feeling of bitter cold, the complete isolation, and the strange beauty of this cold and foreign
part of the world are the dominating images that I have attempted to capture on these canvases.
